Don't know why but this outfit has a little bit of coastal Connecticut in it. May be due to the nautical undertones.

Whatever it was, my initial skepticism towards this outfit was erased after actually trying it on.

9/14/09 - Monday
Shirt: Ralph Lauren / Tie: Puritan / Belt: GAP / Pants: Perry Ellis / Socks: Banana Republic
Decided to mix things up and throw a "casual" ties into the mix. Casual by my standards, anyhow. I say this because I have seen such ties in the streets worn by gents on their way to work.
I guess it can be deemed corporate-office worthy. Not sure if I'll wear it to work again though.
Originally purchased the tie at Wal-mart for casual wear. Think it cost something like $8.

Shirt: Ralph Lauren / Tie: Ermenegildo Zegna / Vest: Club Room / Belt: GAP / Pants: Perry Ellis
Vests are a great way to mix things up. There's really no set rules I go by, other than making sure that I don't try and match the vest with another main article of clothing.
Light brown pants + dark brown vest = no-go (for me). It all comes down to personal preference, of course.
Bonus: Depicted below is the move that made me famous ... Some even dare to say that this cross-over move put me amongst the greats in corporate folklore...
Here's how it went down: The year is 2004 and I'm interning at the firm. It's also Friday, I'm starved, and need to get to the last free bagel in office kitchen. I spot the bagel from afar but I'm going to have to walk across the lunchroom to get it. At the same time I see another intern with the same intention. Problem is, the other intern has a slight lead on me. Then it happened. I didn't think, I just acted. I took a stutter step to the left as if I intended on picking up my pace. The other intern acted in kind. At the last moment however I shifted HARD to the right and head towards the light switch. Soon after I cut the lights I hear the other intern crashing into one of the lunch tables. Cue the lights being turned back on. I'm munching on a bagel, other intern is nursing his knee.

Patterned pants + plain, non-patterned shirt (and vice versa) is the way to go if you aren’t trying to ruffle corporate feathers.
The gray squares on the tie end up looking like they are light blue from a afar. Great if you are say, wearing a light blue shirt. This Ralph Lauren button-down shirt has served me well, great quality/material, I would highly recommend getting a shirt or two when they are on sale.

Very comfortable outfit. Tie includes both colors found on the tie, which should satisfy the if-the-colors-don't-match-your-outfit-is-trash corporate crowd.
Don't know if I like the shirt's button-down collar in this setting though. I always viewed them as the equivalent of velcro shoes in elementary school. A way for those too lazy or incapable of tying their shoes to get by, lol. As in you didn't have enough time to iron your shirt's collars properly and you need to tie them down so that they don't flap up.
Hyuks, jokes aside, I do like button-down dress shirts when wearing vests, V-neck sweaters or cardigans. Personal preference. This is due to the fact that I like keeping the shirt's collar tucked when wearing the aforementioned clothes. The buttons help keep the collars under control.
