I normally only pair this tie with my purple (quadrille pattern shirt) . Why? Habit, I guess. You try out a shirt/tie combination, see that it works and before you know it you start to habitually combine the two at the expense of your other ties and shirts.

Anyway, decided to go with hue blue today. Think it works...

Moral of the story: Don't be afraid to actually try out different patterns/combinations (unless of course you have an inate gift that enables you to evaluate potential clothing combinations in your head), you never know what new outfits you may come up with.
